Money Is a Nervous System Story

By Shay Zamora · November 2025 · 4 min read

You can hand someone the best budgeting template in the world. If their body still believes money is going to run out, they will spend to soothe the fear before they ever open the spreadsheet.

Scarcity is not laziness. It is a survival response. When the nervous system is bracing for the next emergency, long term planning feels like a foreign language.

What Actually Helps

  • Regulate first. A five minute breath practice before you look at your accounts.
  • Name the story. Money is scarce. I am behind. It is too late. Get the words out of the body and onto paper.
  • Start absurdly small. A five dollar automatic transfer teaches safety faster than a fifty dollar one that fails.

Financial literacy inside the Becoming Workshop is built on this order — regulate, reframe, then build the plan. Skip the first two and the third one never sticks.
